- Hyperextension- extreme stretching out of a body part.
- Concentric contraction- the muscle shortens while contracting against resistance.
- Eccentric contraction- the muscle lengthens while contracting against resistance.
- Genu valgum- bending inward of the lower joint; knock knee.
- Genu varum- bending outward of the lower joint; bow legs.
- Meniscus- a disk of cartilage between the articulating ends of the bones in a joint.
- Subluxation- a partial dislocation, as of a joint; sprain.
- Chondromalacia- degeneration of cartilage in the knee, usually caused by excessive wear between the patella and lower end of the femur.
- Proprioceptors- organs within the body that provide the athlete with an awareness of where the body is in space.
- Kinesthesis- the sensation of movement or strain in muscles, tendons, and joints; muscle sense.

- ambulation- move or walk from place to place
- anaphylaxis- an immediate transient allergic reaction resulting in swelling of tissues and dilation of capillaries
- bursitis- inflammation of a bursa, especially those bursa located between bony prominences and a muscle or tendon, such as those of the shoulder or knee
- circumduct- act of moving a limb such as the arm or hip in a circular motion
- ecchymosis- black and blue skin discoloration due to hemorrhage
- keloid- an overgrowth of collagenous scar tissue at the site of a wound of the skin
- spondylolisthesis- forward slipping of a vertebral body, usually a lumbar vertebrae
- sciatica- inflammatory condition of the sciatic nerve, commonly associated with peripheral nerve root compression
- orthotic- a custom-designed insert that can be placed in the shoe and worn to correct a variety of biomechanical abnormalities that can potentially lead to injury.

- Trochanter-large process on the femur for attachment of muscles.
- Tuberosity-large rounded process on many bones for attachment of muscles or tendons.
- Condyle-rounded, knuckle-like process at a joint.
- Fossa-shallow cavity in or on a bone.
- Foramen-opening for blood vessels and nerves
- Fissure-a narrow, deep, slit-like opening.
- Sulcus-a groove or furrow.
